A first-class magnetic resonance imaging station is available in Poprad. It operates a device called Siemens Magnetom Symphony which enables rapid, exact and detailed examination for diseases of the central nervous system, musculoskeletal, vessels and internal organs. These are non-invasive examinations which prevent patient’s body from unpleasant suffering. The main benefit for the citizens will be cuts in waiting time for examination to less than 14 days. Doctors are able to examine about 500 patients a month at full capacity, using Siemens Magnetom Symphony.
Apart from people living in the region of Tatras, the device saves also lives of injured tourists. "Considering the recreational pattern of the region, the device is sometimes used for the examination of brain, spine or internal organs of tourists injured in the Tatra mountains or nearby. It has significantly accelerated their diagnosis and it enables us to apply necessary treatment as soon as possible," Vladimir Solík, division director of Healthcare Imaging and IT Siemens s.r.o, a company which was a technology supplier for the Centre, said.
Apart from these examinations, the professional team of radiologists is able to perform also a special examination of veins of lower limbs of patients who suffer from diabetes or arteriosclerosis. The great advantage of the procedure is that instead of the painful injection of contrast substance directly into the veins of lower limbs, the patient is being applied a painless and harmless contrast agent which helps to achieve a perfect picture of the vascular system during magnetic resonance.
"An invaluable advantage of this facility is also its info-communication connection with the facility at Dr. Magnet in Bratislava and a similar facility of MRI in Prešov. Physicians will be able to consult complicated cases on-line and forward video records of examination which will help to make the correct diagnosis quicker, " Katarína Ménová , MD. , head of the magnetic resonance imaging facility in Poprad, explained.
The Siemens Magnetom Symphony magnetic resonance using a superconductive magnet with a size of magnetic field 1.5 Tesla is one of the most modern of its kind in Europe. The device especially guarantees a top image quality. It is being proved by the fact that there are more than 2 000 of these devices in the world and thus it is the most used magnetic resonance imaging in the world. The device unveiled today that it is not only fitted with standard accessories, but also with software for angiography examination; and its IPAT technology (Integrated Panoramatic Array Technology) offers the opportunity to connect multiple coils simultaneously and to examine a larger area of the patient's body.
